Job Title: Deck Crew

Reports to: Assistant Stage Manager, Stage Manager

Status: Part Time

 

Position Summary:

Arizona Broadway Theatre’s Deck Crew plays a pivotal role in ourlive theatrical production. The

Deck Crew is tasked with creating a safe, consistent backstageexperience for the cast and

fellow crew members through the safe navigation of set pieces,props, and sometimes electrics

on a singular production. Crew members must follow the duties ortasks assigned by designer

or stage management. A Deckhand must be able to complete physicaltasks such as heavy

lifting (20+ lbs), cardiovascular action, pulling rails, andoperating heavy machinery (such as a

scissor lift) as necessary. ABT encourages all deck crew tofacilitate the creation of a safe,

enjoyable backstage environment in a collaborative manner as ateam.

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

- Maneuvering a spotlight (ellipsoidal, programmed into thelighting cues)

- Occasionally scenic and electric maintenance as delegated bystage management

- Executing Scene Shifts

- Operate the Fly Rail

- Props Tracking/Props Handoffs

- Set and Props Load in and Strike on a production

- Assist ASM with pre-show and post-show tasks

- Maintain accurate show running documents throughout theproduction run

- Maintain consistent performance from performance to performance

 

Qualifications:

Must be comfortable with heights

Functions efficiently within a team

Actively seeks opportunities to streamline backstage processes and communication

Understanding of safe practices

Proficient verbal and written communication skills

Maintaining a positive attitude

A willingness to cultivate a progressive backstage culture
